MAHAKAM is a concrete and virtuous project to support natural rubber producers in Indonesia, through a capacity-building project with smallholder natural rubber farmers and their families in East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Built on the success of the pilot project CASCADE, implemented in Jambi, Indonesia, MAHAKAM project aims to reach 2,000 smallholders trained by local partners to make extraction methods more environmentally compatible and efficient. This makes a considerable contribution to the lasting improvement of living conditions of smallholders and their families.
Project Sponsors
Sponsored by the Michelin Group, this three-year project aims to address sustainability risks linked to natural rubber production, based on results from RubberWay™ risk assessments, by empowering smallholder farmers to adopt sustainable practices.
The SUTTI digital training tool from Ksapa is used to enhance scalability and measure impacts. This project is unique as it encompasses the entirety of the supply chain, from global tire manufactorer to smallholder farmer.
Education and training on cultivation practices, biodiversity, post-harvest and work safety all have the aim of achieving long-term improvements in the living conditions and economic situations of the Indonesian smallholders.
